Sylvia Wenger – Mediator & Special Counsel

Sylvia Wenger graduated magna cum laude from the University of Miami School of law, where she was a Dean’s Merit Scholar. During law school she served as teaching fellow, and she was first an associate editor, and then an Executive Board editor for the University of Miami Law Review. Upon her graduation, she was awarded membership in the Order of the Coif, and Phi Delta Phi, two National honor societies.

Sylvia joined Weiss, Handler & Cornwell in 2014 after serving for fourteen years as the career law clerk to the Honorable Donald M. Middlebrooks, United States District Judge. During her tenure with Judge Middlebrooks, Sylvia oversaw one of the Nation’s largest product liability MDLs (In re Trasylol Products Liablity Litigation). She also was an active contributor to the Eleventh Circuit Pattern Jury Instructions, Civil and Criminal editions published 1999 – 2014, and participated with Judge Middlebrooks in six sittings by designation on the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

Prior to working with Judge Middlebrooks, Sylvia practiced law at Steel, Hector & Davis in the areas of employment, securities, and products liability law. With over seventeen years of complex state and federal litigation experience, Sylvia brings a vast array of expertise to the firm. Her areas of expertise include products liability, consumer protection, fair labor standards cases, insurance and employment law, as well as appellate and criminal law.

In addition to her expertise in Federal litigation, Sylvia is also a Florida Supreme Court Certified Mediator in the areas of family, circuit civil, and appellate law. She heads up Weiss, Handler & Cornwell’s mediation practice. She is admitted to practice before the Florida Southern, Middle, and Northern District Courts, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of Florida. Sylvia graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Rutgers University. She is married and has three adult children.

Sylvia is a member of the Palm Beach County Bar Association, the Hispanic National Bar Association, the North County Section of the South Florida Federal Bar Association, the Florida Association of Women Lawyers, Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity.
